Executive Greeting

Donna Tucker, 2018 NRWA Secretary

Congratulations. You are one of the smart ones. You are a resume writer who has chosen membership in an industry association that offers numerous benefits and keeps resume writers on top of important, ever-changing issues and trends within the marketplace. And if that isn't enough, many of our resume professionals believe the greatest benefit of being a member of the NRWA is the camaraderie and sharing that goes on among members. Whether on the elist, at conferences, or in-person locally, the NRWA offers opportunity to meet and build relationships with fellow professionals and affiliates.

I've been an NRWA member -- and resume writer -- for a very long time, yet I don't often visit the association website. This is unfortunate, I've found. There is so much there to help us become better at our craft; so much ...

And these were only two sections! There are tabs for our social media accounts, archives of past newsletters, and a calendar of events, should you want to get more involved in the association. And don't forget the Education section -- helpful articles, the Writing Excellence course, self-directed study, and webinars past and present.

Do yourself a favor. Dive in some slow afternoon and explore what the NRWA has to offer you. I challenge you. There is always something new to learn.

P.S. To find the information I've mentioned, login to TheNRWA.com  with your member username and password. Click on the Members Portal tab on the menu bar to view the various resources categories with drop-down menus.

Member News

Cherie Johnson recently launched an updated website for Your Seat at the Table, LLC. Your Seat at the Table is a career-coaching and resume-writing service for women, located in the New Orleans area. Cherie also offers virtual services for those who live outside of the area.

Frank Grossman has developed his freelance resume and LinkedIn profile writing business via the Resumes That Shine Professional Career Services website, www.resumesthatshine.com. Frank said that he has come to realize, through his 20-year experience in workforce development, that there is a gap between those who are well-served in workforce programs and job candidates who can afford executive-level coaching and receive meaningful outplacement services from their former employers. His business fills that gap. Frank also writes military-to-civilian and federal-to-business conversions and federal resumes for the FS-5 to GS-12 level.

Camille Roberts, CEO of CC Career Solutions, continues to educate federal job seekers and career professionals on how to be successful in landing a federal job. She has developed a cutting-edge, comprehensive federal resume-writing program that teaches resume writers (or their clients) her exact master strategies, concepts, and techniques that have been refined and proven successful for more than 25 years. Camille says the “Magnetize Your Federal Resume” program is the secret to how her clients land more interviews, lucrative job offers, and promotions in the Federal Government. She adds that many of these techniques can be applied in the private sector as well.

Katrina Brittingham, Chief Resume Writer of VentureReady LLC, has planned a series of career coaching live sessions via Facebook and YouTube that will showcase her expertise as well as colleagues’ expertise in areas ranging from resume writing to interviewing, best practices, and career redirection.

Debra Ann Matthews, professional resume writer of Let Me Write It For You Career and Business Services has been certified by The Clarksville Entrepreneur Center to facilitate the Co-Starters Business Program. She recently was hired by a local semi-professional basketball team, the Music City Icons, to write resumes and bios for team members and press releases for the team. Her company has been writing resumes for inmates who will soon be released from prisons and is offering free resume critique classes to spouses and family members of those incarcerated, through her training, “What’s Wrong With Your Resume.”

NRWA Continuing Education: Spring Webinars

You wouldn’t want to go to a doctor who never updates his skills — or an accountant who doesn’t keep up with changes in tax law.

The same is true of job seekers. They want to work with a resume writer who stays current with what’s happening in hiring.

One way to keep your skills sharp is through NRWA continuing education. Education Chair Virginia Franco is assembling a compelling lineup of programs in 2018 geared towards business development, operations, and marketing as well as writing skills and techniques.

Here’s a couple of upcoming programs:

Pat Criscito’s March 16 session on “’Everything’ You Want to Know About the ATS (Part II)” was postponed. You can still register here to attend the rescheduled session. You will receive the recording for Part I immediately, and notification of the live webinar for Part II when it is scheduled. If you’re not able to attend the live session for Part II, you will receive the recording. Registration is $32.50 for NRWA members and $70 for nonmembers.

On April 19, Stan Washington will offer a webinar on “Business Resiliency: Strengthening to Face Business Issues.” The program will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. EST.

Unexpected issues can throw business owners for a loop. Life happens, and sometimes those unexpected issues can seem so overwhelming that all hope of recovery goes away. This webinar is designed to help business owners keep their hope alive.

Stan is a former operations and technology executive who is now the founder and president of Honor Services Office.

2018 Writing Excellence Course - Three Sessions Available

“(Writing Excellence) is an incredible course that will significantly impact your career in writing. Get ready to learn and transform!”

That’s the feedback from one participant in the live Writing Excellence program, taught by Norine Dagliano.

Whether you’re looking to write resumes that stand out from the competition, build your confidence as a resume writer, or prepare for the Nationally Certified Resume Writer (NCRW) exam, this course is for you. The NRWA Writing Excellence course is designed to help professional resume writers boost the quality of their resumes and cover letters so their clients and students can land more interviews.

No matter where you are in your writing career — beginner, intermediate,or advanced — Norine customizes the program to help you develop the skills you need. This custom approach sets this live program apart from other resume writing training programs. Over the course of the 11 sessions, you will work to develop a strategy and write an actual resume and cover letter for a fictionalized client profile and target job announcement. You’ll receive custom feedback from working with a real candidate profile — this is real practice, not theory. You’ll learn from your colleagues — and Norine — while you refine your skills.

The only prerequisites for enrolling are an understanding of resume and cover letter fundamentals, a willingness to accept and apply critical feedback, and a desire to move your writing skills from mediocre to magnificent.

There will be three sessions available in 2018 of this live, instructor-led program. These are:

Note: The August session is an accelerated class, meeting twice a week for five weeks. The evening programs are the regular 11-week format.

Here is what just a few of her students have said:

If you’re interested in elevating the quality and content of the resumes and cover letters you write, you will want to participate in one of these upcoming sessions! Space is limited in each class, so register today.
